Yes Virginia is a Santa Claus

Talk about breaking news. The Washington Post headline is not updated

The party won at least four key state Senate races -- including a bitter and costly battle between Democrat J.C. "Chap" Petersen and Republican incumbent Jeannemarie Devolites Davis -- giving them a 21-19 edge in the chamber, which has been under Republican control since 1997.

The rest of the article still refers to Democratic claims of victory.

For those born further from the Potomac than Pocahontas and me, this is the result of urban sprawl as a little country road called 70s turned into the biggest highway South of the Jersey turnpike called 270. Unlike Maryland, Virginia was opposed in principle to socialist concepts like urban planning, so its Northern fringe is full of Suburban Washingtonians who spend over an hour each morning cursing greedy devlopers and their Republican enablers.

I remember when crossing the Potomac, I felt I was entering enemy ex confederate territory. The Mason Dixon line (border of Maryland and Pennsylvania) was already obsolete when I turned 10 (not when I was born).

Now we got to pave a swath through Georgia 50 miles wide and bury the confederacy for good.
