Maybe they do, but there seems to be fortuitous and advantageous starting points since some minds are more likely to wind up at correct positions than others.

Personally, I distrust Reductionists, Which, I presume, includes psychologists.Jeffrey Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17966839006518642902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621026.post-48537884614564073722014-04-26T05:45:56.634+02:002014-04-26T05:45:56.634+02:00Nice post. I tend to think evolution is the key to everything, so I especially liked the idea that conservatives don't want their ideas to evolve.

Case in point (I think): Andrew Sullivan (@ The Dish)is doing a "bookclub" series of posts on Ehrman's "How Jesus Became God". He is kicking off the discussion with this: "I thought it would be helpful to grapple with the core question of these Biblical texts and how they can be integrated (or not) into orthodox Christian belief and practice." Well of course, you can integrate anything into your core ideology if you try hard enough (even a paradox can be paradoctored, as Heinlein used to say) which is why some people still believe in the luminiferous ether and some even believe in a flat earth, so I suspect the scientific option of abandoning the Christian hypothesis in favor of a more likely one will not in fact be considered.

Perhaps the deeper meaning behind the liberal bias of facts is that the scientific method (which discovers the facts) is an evolutionary and hence liberal process.JimVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10198704789965278981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621026.post-58064524343949773262014-04-24T21:26:51.220+02:002014-04-24T21:26:51.220+02:00PS. Noah Smith had a post where he thought it was sensible to give a megaphone (or at least a speaking tube: the econoblogosphere) to evil psychopaths. He made a very strong claim that other, better ideas would win in the "market place of ideas". Derp. Thornton Hallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11402495641975262697noreply@blogger.com
